about

Born from the spiritual revelations of India’s Rishis and Yogis, the Ragas are musical entities experienced as states of vibrational consciousness. Expressed as intricate melodies in ever changing layas (tempos), they create specific moods that harmonise with the unending interplay between Nature’s cycles and Life’s emotions. The artist develops a relation to the Raga within oneself and identifies their life’s movements through this music. The Ragas offered on this album are considered by musicians and connoisseurs alike as being among the most penetrating and timeless.

The members of The Monsoon Trio are among the first to individually and collectively study in the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara system and perform the vocal and instrumental styles of North Indian Classical music on modern western instruments. Their journey has lead to the creation of the Bass Veena; a fretless electric bass with additional supportive strings, as well as the development of the Shrutiphone; a modified non-tempered saxophone. The Trio has also innovated extended techniques that have aided them to authentically evoke the subtler nuances of Indian Ragas.

Pranaam to our Guru, Pandit Shantanu Bhattacharyya, who has nurtured us from the very beginning of this Raga music journey. Without his unconditional love, generosity and wisdom, none of this would have been possible. We offer the most respectful pranaam to our Great Guru Pandit Prasun Banerjee, Guruma Vidushi Meera Banerjee and Grand Guru Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Through the guidance of our Gurus, the Guru Consciousness has awakened in us our inner Beings, and continues to guide us on our spiritual path. - Jonathan, Andrew & Justin
